What is Chinese Herbal Medicine?
Chinese herbal medicine is a part of Traditional Chinese Medicine and dates back thousands of years in China. Chinese herbal medicine takes a holistic approach to understanding normal function and disease processes and focuses as much on the prevention of illness as on the treatment.
Chinese Herbal medicine is a powerful adjunct to acupuncture. Chinese herbal formulas are prescribed for the patient so that the formula specifically matches and treats the patient’s individual health problem.
Most all herbal medicines used in my clinic are plant based. In my practice I use Chinese herbs in granules or capsule form. This is easier for the patient to take because no cooking of raw herbs is required.
My first choice in treatment is to prescribe whole food based nutritional supplements. Whole food based supplements work best when treating nutritional deficiencies and can be used indefinitely. When Chinese herbs are required they are used on a short term basis.
