I have maintained a private practice in Acupuncture and Herbal medicine for over 15 years. I am also a trained Nutrition Response Testing practitioner. I earned a M.S. in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I am licensed in the state of California and nationally board certified in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology. My first career was as a scientist studying synaptic plasticity in the nervous system and short-term memory in the brain. I hold a doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley in Physiology and Neurobiology. I also studied as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center and worked as a research associate at Langley Porter’s Psychiatric Institute. I have been an invited speaker at many scientific meetings in the United Stated and abroad, and have numerous scientific publications in peer reviewed journals, e.g., Science, Nature and Neuron.
My first passion, even as a child, was the study of science and medicine. The first interest I chose to pursue was science, only later to move on to my second career as a health care practitioner. I chose to study Traditional Chinese Medicine, as this form of medicine is based on the philosophy that the body has the ability to heal itself. My personal experience with Traditional Chinese Medicine also helped shape my views of this medicine.
In addition to maintaining a private practice, I also worked in Dr. Tracy Newkirk’s neurology clinic. I treated many conditions, such as headaches, low back pain, neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and thoracic outlet syndrome.
The modalities I use to treat your health care issues include, acupuncture, Chinese Herbal medicine, microcurrent stimulation (effective for children), Nutrition Response Testing and whole food supplementation.
I live in San Rafael, CA with my husband and two daughters. I enjoy the beauty of Marin County and California by hiking, backpacking, camping, skiing and walks on the beach with my family. I feel fortunate to enjoy good health and would like to facilitate my patients on the path to optimal health.
